Pulitzer Center grantees Scott Anderson and Ben Solomon along with Executive Director Jon Sawyer discuss The New York Times Magazine landmark piece "Fractured Lands: How the Arab World Came Apart" at Yale University on Wednesday, November 30 2016.
Anderson is a contributing writer for The New York Times Magazine. He is the author, most recently, of "Lawrence in Arabia: War, Deceit, Imperial Folly and the Making of the Modern Middle East," which was shortlisted for the National Book Critics Circle Award. In his 33 years as a war correspondent, he has covered conflicts in Chechnya, Egypt, Israel, Lebanon, Northern Ireland, Sri Lanka and Sudan.
Solomon is a multimedia journalist, documentary filmmaker and foreign correspondent for The New York Times. Starting as an intern for the newspaper in 2010, Solomon moved to the Middle East a year later to cover the uprisings in Egypt, Libya and Syria. Since then, he has been constantly bouncing across the Middle East, Africa and the former Soviet Union, covering a variety of events and issues.
The event will be co-sponsored by the Poynter Fund, the Yale Journalism Initiative, the Joseph Slifka Center for Jewish Life at Yale, and the Pulitzer Center.
