Ocean Reporting Network (ORN) Fellow Alexandra Talty will participate in a two-day visit to the University of Oklahoma on Wednesday and Thursday, March 26-27, 2025, to share her Pulitzer Center-supported projects and related work.
Talty is expected to meet with students and faculty focusing on media law and media history at the university, which is part of the Pulitzer Center’s Campus Consortium network.
Her visit will also include working with high school journalism students as part of the Oklahoma Scholastic Media [OSM] spring Media Day with the OKC Thunder, Oklahoma City's NBA team. That portion of her visit will involve participating in a series of casual Q&A sessions with hundreds of students, speaking with them about how she became involved in journalism and her current reporting projects, as well as answering students' questions.
As a 2023 ORN Fellow, Talty investigated U.S. seaweed production by examining business models, harvest strategies and techniques, and by considering the impact on ocean biodiversity, water quality, and interplay with other ocean economies, communities, and climate mitigation. Civil Eats, an independent nonprofit U.S. news website, published her project, America’s Booming Seaweed Industry.
