Pulitzer Center grantee Lisa Armstrong will visit San Diego State University for a day of class visits and a panel discussion. Armstrong will also visit Centinela State Prison, where San Diego State University offers a bachelor of arts for incarcerated students.
Armstrong, who is currently reporting on incarceration, is a professor at the University of California, Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism. Her work has appeared in The Intercept, The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, Mother Jones, and USA TODAY, among others.
Her Pulitzer Center-supported project, Trouble in Texas: Neglect, Abuse at State Juvenile Detention Facilities, follows an at-risk juvenile inmate’s dire journey through the justice system in Texas. He was failed by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD), anemic oversight, and representatives at all levels of government.
