On October 23, 2017, Pulitzer grantee Jonathan Blitzer speaks about his reporting at the Fifth Annual Montgomery College Humanities Days Kick-Off Event. Blitzer, whose project for The New Yorker focused on the thousands of El Salvadorans who have been deported from the United States back to their homeland, will present his story alongside a panel of noteworthy speakers, including the Vice-Consul of El Salvador in D.C. and the Executive Director of the Central American Resource Center.

The event, called "El Salvador: Home and Belonging," is a production of Montgomery College's Global Humanities Institute, which was created in 2012 with the support of a challenge grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. The Institute aims to reinvigorate humanities education by designing programs that reflect the complexities of global societies. Also sponsoring the event are the Global Humanities Institute, the Paul Peck Humanities Institute, and the Germantown, Rockville, and Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus Vice Presidents & Provosts.

There is a light reception at 6:00pm followed by the main talk, which begins at 7:00pm. This event is free and open to the public.
