SECTIONS

A community event will feature the human trafficking melodrama Cargo, by Bahamian writer-director Kareem J. Mortimer. It centers around Haitian migrants being smuggled to the U.S.  A discussion with local experts and journalists about the current migration crisis will follow the film's screening.

The event follows a Miami Herald series by Caribbean correspondent Jacqueline Charles and visual journalist Jose Iglesias

It will take place June 17, 2022. Cargo will be screened 6-8pm EDT, with a panel discussion 8-8:30pm EDT.

The panel will be moderated by Haitian-American writer Edwidge Danticat, author of Brother, I’m Dying​​​​​.

This community event is arranged by the Miami Herald and the Miami Herald Impact Journalism Fund at the Miami Foundation.
