Connect With Us in the Exhibit Hall
Come see us in the Exhibit Hall at booth #413 Friday through Sunday to learn about our free resources for educators and students. We will have giveaways, a raffle, and a pop-up experience from our Ode to Healthy Futures project, which invites you to make connections to the science that shapes our lives and share your vision for a healthier world. You can contribute lines of poetry to a virtual gallery, and get resources to bring this initiative into your classroom or community.
Join Us for Professional Learning Workshops
Our Education team staff will be co-leading two workshops on bringing journalism and media literacy skills into the classroom with alumni of our Teacher Fellowship program.
Saturday, November 22, 11:45am-12:15pm MST, Room 108/110
“Reading Literature through a Global Health Lens and Dreaming of a Healthier Future: Embracing Underreported Stories and Empowering Student Voices”
This session will provide educators with tools for using an anchor text as a catalyst to explore one or more global issues. Participants will learn techniques for using underreported news stories to contextualize literature, and how to create authentic assessments that empower students to raise awareness about contemporary global issues relevant to their course of study.
Saturday, November 22, 4:15-5:30pm MST, Room 402
Good journalism illuminates the challenges facing our communities today, and their systemic, historical roots. The news offers a powerful tool to understand and change the world, while building literacy and civic knowledge. This session will provide tools for integrating news stories into the ELA classroom in a way that empowers students as critical thinkers, empathetic individuals, and bold dreamers.
NCTE is devoted to improving the teaching and learning of English and the language arts at all levels of education. For more than 100 years, NCTE has worked with its members to offer journals, publications, and resources; to further the voice and expertise of educators as advocates for their students at the local and federal levels; and to share lesson ideas, research, and teaching strategies through its Annual Convention and other professional learning events. The NCTE Annual Convention is the premier annual event for English language arts and literacy educators.
