SECTIONS

Grantee Angela Boldrini will visit Spelman College on April 13, 2023, to share her project, Sufrágio, with students. As part of the Department of World Languages and Cultures' weeklong series on Brazil, Boldrini will present on how Brazilian women came to politics and where they are going.

Sufrágio looks at Brazil’s past, from the early suffragists and the struggle around voting rights, to tell the story of the current issues that make women underrepresented in politics. Visiting different regions, Boldrini shares the views of the country’s political women: the elected officials, the first-time candidates, and the voters.

As part of her visit, Boldrini will also visit Portuguese classes and Brazilian studies classes. She will be joined on campus by Mikaela Schmitt, program coordinator for Campus Consortium and Outreach at the Pulitzer Center.

Boldrini is a podcast reporter for Folha de S.Paulo, Brazil’s largest newspaper. She is a co-host of Café da Manhã, one of the country’s most listened-to daily news podcasts on Spotify.

Spelman College is a historically black liberal arts college for women and a Pulitzer Center Campus Consortium partner.
