The University of Chicago’s Middle East regional study center and the Career Advancement office will host grantee Andy Sarjahani for a visit on April 2-3, 2025. Sarjahani will present on his work in a Careers in Humanities seminar, moderate a film screening, visit classes, and meet with student news reporters.

Supported by the Pulitzer Center, Sarjahani captures the power of an individual act of resistance amid the chaos of nationwide disorder in the animated short “The Smallest Power.” The film follows an Iranian medical resident who walks by the daily protests on her way to work each day. One day, her life is transformed when regime forces stormed the intensive care unit, trying to arrest a fellow doctor who was involved with the protests.

Sarjahani is an Iranian-American documentary filmmaker and cinematographer. His work focuses on human ecology, climate change adaptation, threats to democracy, masculinity, and nuance within the American South.
