Paula Bronstein is a photojournalist based in Bangkok, Thailand, and has been specializing in Afghanistan since 2001. Her work documents the legacy of three decades of war—a couple million widows, women whose stories are under-reported. "And why are there so many? Because there are so many men have died. It's that simple." For most widows everyday life becomes a struggle—some may no longer have a home and others may have five or six children to raise on very little income.
