The Assad Files, a project for The New Yorker, tells the story of a group of war crimes investigators who smuggled 600,000 pages of government documents out of Syria. The investigators used these documents to build a case against the Syrian government tracing the systematic torture of tens of thousands of people to a policy that was crafted by the highest level security team within the Syrian government.
