Pulitzer Center Educational Outreach Programs
The Pulitzer Center works with elementary schools, high schools and universities to bring pressing international issues, and the journalists who cover them, into the classroom. Through the Pulitzer Center's education programming and online curricular resources, students and teachers access Pulitzer Center reporting projects from hundreds of professional journalists for powerful educational experiences.
The Pulitzer Center offers classroom visits with Pulitzer Center journalists in-person and online. We also collaborate with teachers, schools and school districts to design and facilitate workshops and school-wide projects that engage students in global issues and journalism skills. Hundreds of lesson plans connected to current global reporting are available for free on our Lesson Builder, which can also be used to create and share curriculum. Educators can also meet with Pulitzer Center education staff and grantees in person through our professional development workshops.
Our programs inspire students, foster curiosity, and increase global awareness. They also encourage students to think critically about the creation and dissemination of news, to become better writers, to develop their analytical and multimedia skills—and at the same time become better informed consumers of news. Classroom visits with Pulitzer Center Journalists
The Pulitzer Center connects journalists to thousands of students all over the world through classroom visits in-person and online. Journalists engage students in discussions about the world's most pressing global issues, from climate change and refugees to food insecurity, public health and human rights. They also describe the process of reporting their projects and ask students to think critically about the creation and dissemination of news.

Lesson Plans and Educational Resources
Our online Lesson Builder (pulitzercenter.org/builder) allows teachers to quickly search through articles, videos, photos and interactive multimedia from among our hundreds of reporting projects and create lesson outlines and curriculum resources. Teachers can also browse and adapt hundreds of Common Core State Standards-aligned model lessons that encourage students to make local connections to international news, while also strengthening critical thinking and writing skills.
Projects and Partnerships
The Pulitzer Center partners with teachers, schools and school districts to design and support projects that engage students in global news while also strengthening students' multimedia, reporting, writing and critical thinking skills. Past projects include school-wide social justice days, student photography exhibitions and reporting projects, and standards-aligned courses that facilitate reflection on global issues through visual art, writing and discussion.

Professional Development
The Pulitzer Center's education staff design and facilitate workshops that help teachers use our journalism to bring the global home, whether through customized workshops, in-person or online visits with our journalists or via our Lesson Builder—a free online digital tool for curriculum development based on Pulitzer Center resources and reporting. Professional development workshops for schools and school districts have also focused on how to integrate photojournalism and reporting techniques into lesson design and instruction.
