Warm up: How has COVID-19 changed your life?

Introducing the Resource: Introduction to Prairie State Museum Project: The Impact of COVID-19 on Illinois Museums

Comprehension & Discussion Questions: Students choose one of three themes in the reporting, read articles, and answer questions.

1. Capturing History Through COVID-19: Students investigate how museums are capturing the experience of living through COVID-19

2. Museums and Community Responsibility: Students examine how some museums are reconsidering their responsibility to their communities in the wake of COVID-19 and anti-racist protests across the country

3. Elevating Under-represented Voices in Museum Spaces:  Students explore the unique opportunities and challenges museums that represent communities of color face during COVID-19

Extension Activities:

1. Create a personal or class exhibit

2. Imagine the museums of the future

3. Write a letter advocating for local museums to acticely support the public

4. Report on Illinois museums that capture Black and Latinx experiences

5. Find under-reported COVID-19 stories in your community

6. Create a graphic novel exploring your journey through COVID-19
