Stephanie Sinclair's multimedia story, Too Young To Wed: The Secret World of Child Brides, won second place in the 2012 Pictures of the Year International's photojournalism competition in the division of issue reporting multimedia story. Sinclair traveled to Afghanistan, Ethiopia, India, Nepal and Yemen over an eight-year period to report on the widespread practice of child marriage. The multimedia presentation, which was sponsored by the Pulitzer Center in association with National Geographic and VII, synthesizes this body of work into a call to action.
Sinclair's photographs were recently recognized by the World Press Photo contest with a first place prize in the contemporary issues category.
The oldest photojournalism contest in the world, Pictures of the Year International is a program of the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute at the Missouri School of Journalism, and honors the work of documentary photographers, magazine, newspapers and freelance photojournalists.
