The Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ)-Northern California Chapter has honored Reese Erlich with an award in the category of explanatory journalism for "Inside the Syrian Uprising," his radio piece broadcast via KPFA.org for Making Contact/National Radio Project. In announcing Erlich's award, SPJ wrote that the piece "provides an intimate look at what's happening on the ground, and the fractious divides among the Syrian people."

The Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting provided Erlich with a grant for his reporting from Syria, part of his project called "Arab Spring in Syria, Egypt and Gaza."

The 2012 SPJ winners will be honored at SPJ-NorCal's 27th annual awards dinner on November 13, 2012, at the City Club in San Francisco.
