A field investigation into the two largest-ever cocaine seizures in Guinea-Bissau uncovered how a route that passes through this West African country is a source of funding for an Al-Qaeda-linked group in the Sahel, while serving the Sinaloa cartel's strategy of diversifying and growing. After these seizures took place, the prime minister had to go into exile, and a new president came to power in Bissau with the support of a general for whom the Department of State is offering a reward of up to $5 million for his involvement in drug trafficking.
