The main jihadist cartels that have been destabilizing the Sahel for over a decade are now aiming at a new expansion towards the coastal countries of West Africa. The strategy is to destabilize their poorer and marginalized northern border regions by spreading fear and exploiting resentment.

Benin is among the countries that have suffered the most attacks so far, over twenty since the beginning of 2022. The northernmost Beninese regions are creating the perfect climax for jihadist groups to expand and proselytize. Only preventive action can avoid the worst. An intervention that cannot be only military as in other contexts, such as Mali, Burkina Faso and Nigeria.

I principali cartelli jihadisti che da oltre dieci anni stanno destabilizzando il Sahel ora puntano a una nuova espansione in direzione dei Paesi costieri dell'Africa occidentale. La strategia consiste nel destabilizzare le loro regioni frontaliere settentrionali più povere ed emarginate diffondendo paura e sfruttandone il rancore.

Il Benin è tra i Paesi che hanno subito più attacchi fino ad ora, oltre venti dall'inizio del 2022.
