Inhabitants of the Nanga subdivision in the Upper Sanaga division of the center region of Cameroon are clamoring for over 6,000 hectares of land snatched away from them by the Cameroon government in 2009 for a Chinese development project. Twelve years on, all actions carried out by these Indigenous people to get back their land or at least some form of compensation have been futile. On the contrary, some of them are experiencing intimidation tactics being used against them, while others have been jailed for resistance efforts.
Congo Basin Rainforest Journalism Fund grantee Vanissa Mafouokeng went to the Upper Sanaga division to investigate a massive Chinese land grabbing project, where she reported her findings for Radio Tiemeni Siantou.
