China surprised the world by agreeing to a strong climate deal with the United States when President Obama visited Beijing in early November. Equally surprising, and perhaps related, the Chinese government is invoking Buddhist and other traditional cultural values in its response to the country's environmental challenges. PBS NewsHour correspondent Fred de Sam Lazaro reports on this development, drawing on the documentary Searching for Sacred Mountain that was co-directed by Pulitzer Center grantees Gary Marcuse and Shi Lihong.
