More than half of India's population works in the agricultural sector and they are now on the front lines of climate change. Farmers complain of failed crops because of higher temperatures, drought, and extreme rainfall.
Correspondent Fred de Sam Lazaro and producer Sarah Clune Hartman visit farmers in the southern Union Territory of Puducherry and see how farmers have coped so far with the changes. The journalists also profile the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation, which is helping to make agriculture more resilient by researching and promoting more heat-, drought-, and saline-tolerant crops, as well as ways to help farmers adapt to new pest threats that have emerged with the changing climate.
