Molly Oleson

Molly Oleson is a San Francisco-based print and multimedia journalist, editor, photographer, and illustrator. She holds a bachelor's degree in painting from Boston University's College of Fine Arts, and a master's in journalism from the University of California, Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism.

Oleson has produced work for Sierra magazine, Juxtapoz magazine, Acoustic Guitar magazine, The Bold Italic, the San Francisco Chronicle, Pacific Sun, North Bay Bohemian, Nomic magazine, World Pulse, Mission Local, Breakthroughs magazine, and Brink magazine, among other publications.

Her reporting has led her to farms in Australia and New Zealand, ashrams in India, fishing villages in South Africa, and the Brazilian Amazon.

Oleson was the recipient of the 2013 Dorothea Lange Fellowship for documentary photography, and has been recognized for her work by the San Francisco Press Club and the Association of Alternative News Media.

Most recently, Oleson served as editor of Pacific Sun, the country's longest continuously published alternative weekly newspaper. Prior to this, she worked as an editor at Mission Local, a hyperlocal news site in San Francisco's Mission District. She has also taught writing and editing classes in the journalism department at City College of San Francisco.

Currently, Oleson works as a freelance multimedia journalist and editorial illustrator. She aims to find creative ways of combining writing, illustration, photography, and video to tell compelling stories—both locally and around the world.
