Mike Wereschagin
GRANTEE
Mike Wereschagin is the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's assistant managing editor for data and investigations. During his two decades as a Pittsburgh-based journalist, he has been part of a wide range of investigations, including uncovering dangerous vulnerabilities in the country's natural gas infrastructure, sweeping breakdowns in health care at the Pittsburgh Veterans Affairs, efforts by ISIS to recruit U.S. citizens, and the ways in which state legislators hide millions of dollars in spending on themselves.
A longtime politics reporter, he works with the Post-Gazette's government reporting team on accountability and investigative stories about public officials, including a series that exposed the dire state of Pittsburgh’s finances and another on the growing flood of dark money into local and state campaigns.
His work has won the Investigative Reporters and Editors' Freedom of Information Award, the John V.R. Bull Freedom of Information Award, and other state and national honors.
