David Zane Mairowitz

GRANTEE

David Zane Mairowitz is an author, playwright, radio director, and translator. He lives in Berlin and in Avignon in the south of France. 

A freelance writer, he has published numerous books, both fiction and non-fiction, as well as a series of graphic novels for Self-Made Hero in London. He is the author of Introducing Kafka (with Robert Crumb).

His plays have been produced in London, France, Holland, Georgia, and the United States.

Mairowitz's articles have appeared in major publications, including Harper's, Vogue, Plays and Players, Village Voice, The Progressive, and The Sunday Times of London. His short stories have appeared in dozens of literary magazines, including Partisan Review, New Directions, and the collection Penguin Modern Stories

He is also a long-time contributor to The Missouri Review. He won a Pushcart Prize for his short story "Hector’s Letter."

For many years he worked as a producer for radio dramas and documentaries for the BBC and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in Canada, for Radio France, as well as in over 20 European countries, including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Finland, and Poland, among others.

He speaks English, German, and French and writes in all three languages.
