In She's Not a Boy, Columbia School of Journalism student fellows Yuhong Pang and Robert Tokanel highlight the story of Tatenda Ngwaru, an asylum-seeking intersex woman who fled Zimbabwe. The documentary will screen on August 20, 2019 at 9 p.m. at the VIFF Vanctity Theatre in Vancouver, British Columbia as part of the Vancouver Queer Film Festival. It will be featured alongside other shorts exploring queer identity in the "Queer Diaspora" program at the festival.

The documentary premiered at Columbia Journalism School in December 2018 and was also screened at Wicked Queer: The Boston LGBT Film Festival as an official selection in April 2019.

Tatenda's decision to embrace her identity in a country where being queer is criminalized and stigmatized caused a rift in her family and eventually forced her to flee Zimbabwe after receiving community pressure and threats of violence. Two years later, Tatenda has learned that even a diverse, queer-friendly city like New York is a hard place to make home.
