Paid Professional Development for Chicago Teachers: Journalism as Accountability for AI Technologies

In this workshop, K-12 educators and administrators supporting Chicago students will explore global news stories about artificial intelligence (AI) supported by the Pulitzer Center, noticing how accountability reporting about AI technologies connects to other systemic global issues and the issues that matter the most in their unique communities. Participants will discover teacher and student toolkits created by the Pulitzer Center’s AI Teacher Council, and a unit plan focused on AI accountability designed by a Chicago Public Schools teacher.

Leverage Pulitzer Center reporting to support discussions and activities about responsible engagement with AI in the classroom
Who is eligible: This opportunity is available to education professionals supporting Chicago students. Eligible participants include classroom teachers, administrators, and content specialists supporting Chicago public and public charter schools; out-of-school-time program staff and administrators; and educators supporting programming for youth in carceral facilities.
Where: This event will take place in-person at the University of Chicago's Center for East Asian Studies (1155 East 60th Street, Room 319, Chicago, IL 60637)
When: Saturday, December 7, 2024, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm CST. Breakfast and lunch will be included.
Stipend: Each participating educator will receive a $50 stipend for attending, engaging, and completing a post-workshop survey.
Application: This opportunity will be limited to a select group of up to 25 participants. Applications will be reviewed and approved on a rolling basis until Monday, November 25, 2024. For any questions, please email [email protected].
