China's elite and infertile are flocking to Southern California to hire American surrogates to have their babies for them. This short documentary follows Qiqi, Chinese social media's most sought-after U.S. surrogacy broker, who has built her home business in Irvine, California, into a one-stop shop for wealthy families from China seeking U.S. surrogacy services. In a surprising twist, Qiqi decides to hire an American surrogate herself, opening up a deeper set of ethical and global labor implications. Watch the film now on The New York Times Op-Docs channel.
