In 2002, the Netherlands legalized euthanasia, and the country has since become a reference for numerous other jurisdictions, including Belgium, Canada, and the state of California, that have passed assisted dying laws. Dutch society has embraced the practice as nowhere else, and as pressure for death on demand is increasingly felt around the world, the Netherlands may hold the key to all our futures.
