Unit overview: Students evaluate underreported news stories and other sources to prepare and conduct debates on pressing issues that matter to them. 

Resources for facilitating this unit: Complete five-day unit plan, including warm-ups, resources, discussion questions, activities, performance tasks, and student examples for the unit.

Performance task: Students prepare and conduct debates. They also prepare reflection papers after analyzing all debates to reflect their learning from the unit.

Assessments and Examples: Student presentations are evaluated using the 6+1 Traits of Writing Rubric for Oral Presentation. Reflection essays are evaluated using the 6+1 Traits Writing Rubric. The PDF above includes student examples for all formative and summative assessments within the unit.
