Rising demand for food, energy, and natural resources such as timber, water, and minerals has created enormous pressures on land rights, ownership, and access. Across the globe, land is grabbed and invaded by both public and private interests; most frequently in the Global South.
Where land rights are weak, unclear, or poorly governed, there is an increased likelihood of corruption, human rights abuses, conflict over resources, and environmental degradation. And it is often the most vulnerable groups who bear the brunt of the problems created by poor land governance.
To investigate this growing crisis, we accept project proposals on a rolling basis mainly through our rainforest fellowship and grant and our climate and labor grant. If your project doesn’t fit any of these grants, you can also submit your proposal through our “catch-all” global reporting grants.
