A Pulitzer Center-supported project has received an award for COVID-19 coverage.

A series by Mission Local, How Do We Survive?, by Lydia Chávez and Sindya Bhanoo, won an APEX Award in the COVID-19 Media-Newspaper/Magazine Articles category. The project explores the ongoing impact of the coronavirus on San Francisco's Spanish-speakers by examining the lived experiences of Mission District residents. Undocumented workers made daily decisons to continue working in restaurants, food delivery, or construction. It was a decision that meant higher rates of infection, sickness, and in some cases, death. The series includes stories of Latinx immigrants by Mission Local reporters and students and staff from the University of California, Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism.

The APEX Awards recognize outstanding work published in 2020. View the complete list of winners here.
