Forest Thieves: Who Profits From Federal Lands?

Country:

Author:

Non-designated public forests make up nearly a third of the deforested areas in the Brazilian Amazon. The engines of this destruction are professional land grabbers: criminal groups that often include businessmen, politicians, and public servants willing to invest a large amount of money to deforest huge areas and then sell it with a large profit.

Working as a special reporter for The Intercept Brasil, Fernanda Wenzel uses public data and satellite tools to find out who is behind the biggest wreckage in the public forests of the Brazilian Amazon.
