Scott Anderson tells the story of the collapse of the Middle East over the last 15 years, from the American invasion of Iraq in 2003 to the Arab Spring revolution, the rise of ISIS and the global refugee crisis. Anderson and photographer Paolo Pellegrin traveled tens of thousands of miles from Libya to Kurdistan to report "Fractured Lands," a story that closely chronicles the lives of six people. The entire issue of the August 14, 2016, New York Times Magazine is devoted to this single story and is accompanied by a virtual reality experience filmed by Ben Solomon.
