LGBTQ+ Rights

Although cultural contexts vary around the globe, LGBTQ+ people widely face a lack of acceptance. Pulitzer Center journalists examine the many challenges LGBTQ+ people encounter, probing legal, religious, and ethical issues in the fight for equal rights. Our grantees report on a wide range of topics, including hate crimes, legislation, and issues in health care and education. They ask important questions: How do the experiences of LGBTQ+ people compare across borders? How do they find pockets of safety and acceptance in hostile political environments? And in a world plagued by stigma, how do LGBTQ+ people find ways to freely express gender, sexuality, and love?

Through stories of fear, hope, and joy, the Pulitzer Center hopes to rise above hateful misinformation and highlight the real lives of LGBTQ+ people.
