Rape and Justice in Pakistan: Live Chat Wednesday 2pm ET

Following the May 29, 2013, broadcast of "Outlawed in Pakistan," a documentary expose of rape and justice under shari'ah law in Pakistan, The New York Times Lede blog and PBS will host an online discussion with FRONTLINE filmmakers and Pulitzer Center grantees Habiba Nosheen and Hilke Schellmann. Pakistan Bureau Chief for The New York Times, Declan Walsh, will also participate.

Nosheen and Schellmann spent close to four years tracing the case of Kainat Soomro, a young girl wading through a flawed court system as she seeks justice after being raped at 13 years old.

"We wanted to make sure that the nuances we found on the ground in Pakistan are reflected in the film," says Schellmann. "Women face a lot of backlash for speaking out about sexual violence in Pakistan, but you also see in the film dedicated Pakistanis who are working hard to improve the situation for women."

"We're committed to telling the story of how this rape case unfolds, but also to making sure you hear all sides and understand what it's like for everyone involved in fighting a rape case in a place like Pakistan," says Nosheen.
