Join the Pulitzer Center and the University of Chicago for a two-day professional development workshop for teachers in the Chicago area that brings together award-winning journalists supported by the Pulitzer Center and digital educational resources created by Pulitzer Center and University of Chicago to address the incorporation of current global issues in the classroom. The program will include a combination of presentations and hands-on curriculum building activities. Participants will leave with the tools to incorporate new content into their classes, as well as connections to journalists working on these issues.

On the first day of the workshop, participants will meet with Pulitzer Center grantees Dominic Bracco, Eli Kintisch, Eleanor Bell Fox, Karim Chrobog, Alexandria Bombach, and Robin Shulman to explore connections between global issues and local contexts. On the second day, teachers will work with Shulman and Pulitzer Center education staff to explore reporting skills, engage with the Pulitzer Center Lesson Builder and create lesson plans that make local connections to global issues.

Intended for elementary through community college educators (K–14), the Summer Teacher Institute is open to all interested parties. Attendees can earn up to 12 CPDUs by completing the Institute.

Non-refundable registration fee: $50 (plus $3.50 in service fees)

The Institute is presented by the University of Chicago Center for East Asian Studies, Center for East European and Russian/Eurasian Studies, Center for Latin American Studies, Center for Middle Eastern Studies, Neighborhood Schools Program, Oriental Institute, and University of Chicago Engages, in partnership with the Pulitzer Center. It is made possible through generous support from the Title VI National Resource Center grants from the US Department of Education.
