Pulitzer grantees Nick Schifrin and Zach Fannon spent eight weeks in Russia exploring what the country is like in the age of Putin. Their 6-part series for PBS NewsHour includes an exploration of "new Russian identity," the use of propaganda to maintain the government's power, and the rise of ISIS supporters in regions such as Degestan. They met with enemies of the state and Putin's opposition to learn what happens to those who speak out against Russia's president—and they examined the bilateral relationship with the United States as well as Russia's changing feelings towards President Trump.
