What happens when targeting journalists becomes a tactic in a brutal civil war? We're seeing the results in Syria, where according to the Associated Press 30 journalists have been kidnapped or gone missing. David Rohde, himself the victim of a kidnapping when he was reporting for The New York Times in Afghanistan, says one consequence is already apparent: less journalism on the ground in Syria. "The agony of average Syrians trapped between the government and jihadis continues," he writes in his column for Reuters. "And it is now easier for the world to ignore it."
