Dear Educators —
Autumn is in full swing at the Pulitzer Center as the education team prepares for school visits in Chicago, Philadelphia, St. Louis and Washington, DC. We'll be bringing two-time Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Paul Salopek to classrooms to discuss his upcoming walk around the world, a trek that will take seven years and will follow the path of human migration through history. National Geographic is sponsoring the walk and we're heading up a robust education component with opportunities for your students to connect with Paul as he travels.

We're joining The New York Times Learning Network and the National Writing Project to celebrate the National Day of Writing on October 19 and 20 through #WhatIWrite. Our journalists will be helping to promote international journalism and untold stories, and your students can join the conversation, too.
Snap a photo of what your students write — poetry, essays, short stories — and send it to us at [email protected] or tweet it out with #WhatIWrite and copy @PulitzerCenter. We'll compile these images into a photo collage with responses from other classrooms, our journalists and university student fellows. We want to make it as easy as possible for you and your students to participate, so if you have any questions please send us an email.

Beginning this fall, we're excited to partner with the Trans-Border Institute at the Joan B. Kroc School of Peace Studies at the University of San Diego to host the Re-Imagining Borders Photography Contest. Open to high school and college students, the contest asks participants to explore borders in their communities and think about ways to overcome physical, psychological and cultural barriers.
Award-winning photographer and Pulitzer Center grantee Dominic Bracco is a member of the judging panel and will lead a tutoring session with the finalists at the awards ceremony on April 8 in San Diego.
We hope you'll encourage your students to participate in this cross-border collaboration. Entries are due February 15. The winning images will be featured on our website, honored by the Museum of Photographic Arts and printed in the Global Journal Project's Global Vantage magazine.
