Editor's note: This story was published by Amnesty International, France, Dec. 2014. The project referenced is "Crimea: Human Toll" by Pulitzer Center grantee Misha Friedman. Friedman chronicles the lives of Boghdan, 35, who is Ukrainian and his Russian partner Yegor, 41, a gay couple as they prepare to leave Crimea following Russia's annexation. Both receive homophobic threats and worry about a continued right to custody of their adopted child.
