On March 15, Rockford's Discovery Center closed because of the coronavirus pandemic. At first, Discovery Center announced it would close for two weeks. The shutdown lasted until July 8.

Typically, the Vintage Wheels & Wings Museum opens in April. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the museum was one of 85,000 worldwide closed for much of this spring. The museum finally opened on June 20 on weekends and by appointment.
Last week, the Rockford Art Museum opened its doors for the first time since the state mandated closing in March. A Facebook online fundraiser helped raise enough money to ensure anyone who wants to visit the museum this year can do so free of charge.
The Burpee Museum of Natural History in Rockford, Illinois, was forced to lay off 84 percent of its staff during the pandemic. The museum is now set to reopen this Friday, with a restricted schedule.
The Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Laurent House in Rockford, Illinois, is once again open for visitors, but financial and logistical challenges still lie ahead for the museum.
