Rainforests

Tropical rainforests occupy around 6% of the Earth's surface and are considered vitally important ecosystems. Over the last few decades, especially in the Amazon and Southeast Asia, agricultural development and illegal land occupation have accelerated their destruction to unprecedented levels. A similar process has taken place in the forests of Central Africa. Preserving these forests and guaranteeing the well-being of Indigenous populations is a challenge of great complexity.

Our rainforest reporting grants support proposals on systemic rainforest and environmental topics such as mining and deforestation, Indigenous and land rights, resource exploitation, and more. This grant is open all year and applications can be in English, bahasa Indonesia, French, Portuguese, and Spanish. Our long-term Rainforest Investigations Network (RIN) fellowships foster cross-border, collaborative investigative journalism at the intersection of climate change, corruption, and governance.
