Environment and Climate Change

Climate change disrupts economies, health, and culture. As indicators confirm the worst global warming predictions each year, the understanding of extreme climate events and reporting on the long-term effects on communities becomes crucial.

In recent years, the Pulitzer Center has sharply expanded the quality and quantity of our climate coverage, with stories ranging from communities adapting to rising sea levels in coastal cities to the psychological effects of a hotter planet.

We support in-depth reporting on climate change’s pressure on forests, coastal communities, and marine ecosystems through our rainforest and ocean grants and yearlong fellowships. In 2021, we launched Our Work/Environment, to explore the relationship between climate change and labor rights. If your project doesn’t fit any of these grants, you can also submit your proposal through our “catch-all” global reporting grants.
