Forests at the Crossroads

Country:

Author:

Indonesia has some of the most important and biodiverse forests in the world. But the future of these tropical forests looks increasingly uncertain.

A senior editor at Tempo magazine, Bagja Hidayat coordinates a team of investigative reporters who seek to show the power relations and economic elites behind large-scale deforestation in Indonesia. His project is a mix of detailed data analysis and field reporting on different islands in the archipelago, revealing contradictions in sectors such as industrial agriculture, timber exports, and mining.
