Cleopatra Warren

Dr. Cleopatra E. Warren is a dedicated professional with more than 20 years in education with the Atlanta Public Schools district. Currently, she teaches U.S./World Affairs, A.P. U.S. History, U.S. Film, and Economics at the Coretta Scott King Young Women's Leadership Academy in Atlanta, GA. Through her teaching practice and curriculum leadership, she has served as Department Chairperson, Instructional Coach and Lead Teacher. Prior to teaching, Dr. Warren served as Regional Field Organizer for Amnesty International, USA.

She has received grants and fellowships to participate in professional learning with the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, Teaching Tolerance's Advisory Board, Harvard University's Global Education Think Tank, the Fund for Teachers, Oxbridge Paris,  and the Yale University PIER Institute. She received a Ford Foundation grant sponsored by Emory University and Clark Atlanta University to study at the W.E.B. DuBois Center for Pan-African Studies in Accra, Ghana.

Dr. Warren has been recognized as Teacher of the Year, the Association for the Study of African American Life and History's National Teacher of the Year and recognized by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators as a STAR Teacher. Dr. Warren was named White House Fellows Regional Finalist in 2011. She is an independent professional developer and educational consultant who works closely with major national educational organizations to provide expertise in culturally responsive curriculum alignment, including culturally and historically responsive literacy.

She is a nationally recognized, highly skilled and culturally competent professional who has worked with educational and community organizations in  South Africa, Ghana, Zimbabwe, France, Greece, Barbados and Belgium. Dr. Warren served as a Fulbrighter in Brazil and  delegate to the  United Nations World Conference Against Racism. She is the founder of the Educational Justice and Action Research Collaborative and  currently serves on the Executive Board of the Georgia Fulbright Association as Coordinator of the Fulbright in the Classroom Program. A visionary educator, her accomplishments reflect an emphasis on curriculum alignment, culturally congruent teaching and learning and transformative curriculum for sustainable change. Dr. Warren is state certified in School Leadership (K-12), Social Studies (6-12), ESOL, Curriculum and Instruction.

She earned her B.A. degree in Political Science from Morris Brown College, a M.A. in Social Studies Education from New York University and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Mercer University, where she also serves as Adjunct Professor of Culturally Responsive Pedagogy.
