Muriel Alarcon
2020 POST-GRAD REPORTING FELLOW
Muriel Alarcón Luco is a Chilean journalist working as a freelance reporter and photographer from Santiago, Chile. She studied Journalism at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile Journalism School and holds a master of arts degree, focused on science and health, from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. In Chile, she is a Professor of non-fiction writing and works in academic research at Pontificia Universidad Católica Journalism School, and she is also a regular contributor for El Mercurio and La Segunda, two of local’s major newspapers. This last year, she reported on Latino communities in New York City as a grantee of Fundación Gabo and was a fellow for the Global Migration Project at Columbia Journalism Investigations, whose investigation won a Silurians Press Club's Medallion Award for Science & Health Reporting on 2022. Her work has also been published in The New York Times, New York Magazine's GrubStreet, and Univisión.
