Sandy Tolan

Sandy Tolan works at the intersection of the environment, land conflicts, Indigenous and marginalized communities, labor and the global economy.

Over four decades he has reported from more than 40 countries, most in Latin America and the Middle East. He is the author of three books, including the international bestseller, The Lemon Tree, and most recently, Children of the Stone.

Tolan's work has garnered more than two dozen national and international awards, including a duPont Colombia, two Robert F. Kennedy awards, a George Polk award, and three honors from the Overseas Press Club, most recently for a two-year investigation of forced labor on sugarcane plantations in the Dominican Republic. In that investigation, Tolan collaborated with Dominican-Haitian journalist Euclides Cordero Nuel.
