Pulitzer Center grantee Nicolas Pelham speaks at the New America Foundation in Washington DC, on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, about his most recent book Holy Lands: Reviving Pluralism in the Middle East and his own experience in the troubled region.

In Holy Lands, Pelham displays a unique perspective about the future of the Middle East–optimism.

"The headlines from the Middle East these days are bad, characterized by violence, terror, and autocracy. Whatever hopes people may have for the region are being dashed over and over, in country after country," writes Columbia Global Reports, which published the book. "Nicolas Pelham, the veteran Middle East correspondent for The Economist, has witnessed much of the tragedy, but in Holy Lands he presents a strikingly original and startlingly optimistic argument."

Pelham has more than 20 years of experience reporting, living and studying in the Middle East. In addition to his work with The Economist and New York Review of Books, Pelham has taken breaks from journalism and worked for the United Nations and the Royal Institute of International Affairs.
