Jason McLure, a correspondent at The Examination, will visit the University of Chicago on October 18, 2024. He will speak in classes, meet with students, and present during the university’s annual Journalism Arts and Media (JAM) Festival. The Examination is an independent nonprofit newsroom that “investigates preventable health threats and empowers people in harm’s way.”

McLure helped lead the Pulitzer Center-supported project Smoking for the State, produced in partnership between The Examination, Initium Media, and Der Spiegel. The project reveals how countries like China and Egypt pay lip service to curtailing tobacco use while they take a profitable drag, enabling tobacco companies to push more products to their citizens.

McLure has lectured on journalism at the University of Missouri, reported in Africa for Bloomberg, and volunteered with the U.S. Peace Corps in Niger. His work has appeared in The Economist, The New York Times, Newsweek, the Center for Public Integrity, Foreign Policy, and the National Law Journal.
