Our data journalism initiative is supporting groundbreaking journalism projects that spotlight underreported issues around the globe. The fast-evolving field of data journalism is being led by ambitious, tech-savvy reporters who use a variety of tools, such as mapping programs, spreadsheets, data cleaners, visualization tools, and even machine learning to collect, analyze, and filter large data sets for the purpose of investigating a potential news topic.

Over the years, our data journalism grantees have unearthed powerful data that have exposed China’s secret Muslim prisons, stolen Indigenous lands, zombie oil and gas wells, and even battles over Nile River water.

Our support for data journalism is open to all newsrooms and independent journalists in the United States and around the world. Click here to apply.
