Thousands of victims of violence suffer from a legacy of impunity in Colombia. Union leaders and workers, human rights advocates, politicians, Afro-Colombianos – all have faced violence and await justice.
As part of its Free Trade Agreement with the U.S. that took effect two years ago, Colombia promised to seek justice for these victims. It has taken steps, but the violence persists, protective measures are inadequate, and long lingering cases go unsolved.
