Pulitzer Center grantee Stephanie Hanes explains the difficulties faced by stateless populations—people who have no citizenship rights—and how the stateless are distinguished from refugees. Using Kenya, Bangladesh and the Dominican Republic as a lens to look into this worldwide phenomenon, Hanes emphasizes the diversity within stateless populations. She and photographer Greg Constantine, in their new project "Statelessness: A Human Rights Crisis," examine the vulnerabilities in our modern concepts of borders and nation states.
